Low voltage landscape lighting is a great way to light up areas around the outside of your home such as outdoor living spaces and high profile landscape areas. Lighting up areas of your yard and the outside can be very beneficial for things like curb appeal, home value, deterring crime, and greatly increasing visibility for the homeowner, their guests, and their pets to safely maneuver around the yard at night.
A lot has changed with landscape lighting since it was first introduced in the 1930’s. One of the biggest changes is the introduction of LED bulbs. The use of LED bulbs has many various advantages compared to older halogen bulbs. LED bulbs allow things such as a far greater amount of lights to be installed, brighter and wider light variations, far greater life of the light bulbs, and far less amounts of energy used compared to halogen bulbs.
Because of innovative technology and materials, once installed LED lighting requires very little maintenance and attention. Typical LED bulbs can last about 10-20 years. Most light fixture companies offer a very long warranty on their fixtures. Some now even offer lifetime warranties. Lighting systems can be programmed turn on and off automatically. Having the system linked up with your wifi also allows the homeowner to easily change settings through an app on their phone whether they’re home or away.
One of the greatest assets with today’s low voltage lighting systems is that once installed it is typically very easy for more light fixtures to be added at a later time. It isn’t uncommon for homeowners to start off on a somewhat small scale of lights and add more later.
